November 14th Playbook

Republicans and Democrats in the state House select their new leadership team, while Pennsylvania strikes out on Amazon HQ2. Here is the Playbook.

GOP Leadership: Cutler Selected As New Majority Leader: The Lancaster County Republican takes over for Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana).

Former Philadelphia City Rep Desiree Peterkin Bell Charged For Public Corruption: The former official in Mayor Michael Nutter’s administration is being charged with “multiple counts of theft of public funds involving the Mayor’s Fund.”

SD-6: Not Enough Votes For Davis to Unseat Tomlinson: The closely watched state Senate race in lower Bucks County appears to have gone to the Republican incumbent. The Patch reports that the “provisional ballots have not yet been broken down”, but “obviously those number would not be enough to change the result of the race at this point.”

Pennsylvania Doesn’t Get Amazon HQ2, Offered $4.6B over 25 Years: Amazon’s second headquarters will not be in Pennsylvania, but Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration revealed their offer to them yesterday.

Peduto’s State of the City Address: Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto delivered the state of the City address yesterday. His proposed budget has no tax increase, while he promised more than $500 million investment in city employee, road and bridges and quality of life institutions.

Pennsylvania Is One Of Three States Where Republicans Lost Popular Vote, But Won the State House: The Washington Post detailed the midterm results in Pennsylvania, Michigan and North Carolina where Republicans lost the popular vote, but still walked away with a majority of seats in their state Houses. Democratic candidates won 54% of the statewide House popular vote, but walked away with 45% of the state legislature. The Washington Post credited, “this disparity is largely due to how the districts were drawn.”

Dean Tweets Support for Pelosi: The incoming Congresswoman representing the newly drawn 4th District in the Philadelphia suburbs tweeted out her support for Rep. Nancy Pelosi as next Speaker of the House. Madeleine Dean said Pelosi has the “experience, compassion, intellect, & skill to lead us during this crucial time” and credited her for ushering in Obamacare.
